Schedule
Morning
9-9:30AM: Environment “activated” to explore variety of whole ecosystems. Participants will enter the stage and have an opportunity to view demonstrations of each instrument and meet the workshop organizers.
9:30-10:30AM: Timed circulation through thematicized zones to get hands on intro by local researcher-artists. Each researcher-artist will give a short presentation of their station, after which a verbal overview of the day’s schedule will be provided. Participants will be encouraged to think about how the different modalities of sensing and feedback can contribute to a holistic experience.
10:30-11:30AM: Break into groups for hands-on work in zones. Participants will break into groups of about 5 people each and visit multiple stations. Researcher- artists will demonstrate each instrument or toolkit, after which the group will have an opportunity for hand-on experimentation and play.
11:30AM-12PM: Whole-group discussion of what was learned / discussed in each group and what could be done for a whole-environment composition.
Afternoon
1-2PM: Presenting ecosystemic approaches to composing for rich, open-ended responsive environments (Sha). This presentation will lead into a conversation of how the instruments and tools can be combined into a single experience.
2-3PM: Ideas for poetic ecosystems.
3-4PM: Parallel work in thematic areas. Participants will work to define states of their systems and connect them to the larger responsive environment.
4-5PM: Putting different creations together and playing in layered settings.
